I have lived in China for four years: for the first two years, I lived in Xi’an, taught at 西安交大 and studied Chinese as foreign language there as an undergraduate; for the last two years, I have lived in Sanya and have taught a wide variety of courses at Sanya University. I am extroverted and have many hobbies, including playing Chinese chess, playing the Chinese flute (笛子), practicing Chen style taijiquan, reading literature, traveling, jogging and kitesurfing. I have taught literature and writing for many years at U.S. universities and participated in conferences in China, Great Britain, the U.S. and France. I also speak many languages: Serbian, French, Spanish, Chinese and English. I enjoy teaching at Sanya because of the beautiful weather and because of the wonderful students at the university.
B.A. in Anthropology and French Literature from Binghamton University in New York. Graduated with High Honors.
Ph.D. in Comparative Literature at the University of Buffalo, New York.
I have taught at a wide range of universities and colleges in the United States. I taught at the University of Maine at Presque Isle, Saint Paul’s College in Virginia, and Saint Augustine’s University in Raleigh, North Carolina. I have also taught at numerous community colleges in Arizona, California and Virginia. I have over twenty years of teaching experience in the United States, and I have presented papers, attended conferences, and written two books on literature and literary theory. In China, I taught English for undergraduate and graduate students at 西安交通大学. This is my second year at Sanya University. During this time, I have also presented a paper at an international conference at Shanghai University.
I have helped translate documents into English, and I have also done work as an interpreter. I can play the Chinese flute and have been featured on a CCTV documentary dealing with traditional Chen style taiji. I am polylingual and can speak many different languages. I am also a writer and have done editing work in the past.
